Department IX - Jan Matejko's collections
This collection is made up in whole of objects presented and stored at the Jan Matejko House. The resources of the painter’s output, especially portraits of his family members, are growing through purchases and gifts. The most recent acquisitions (1999–2001) are portraits of Paulina Giebułtowska and Maria Golichowska nee Matejko. One of the most generous was a bequest from the heirs of Helena Unierzyska nee Matejko.
Researchers of Matejko’s oeuvre have access to the artist’s paintings, watercolours (including cartoons for the polychromes at St. Mary’s Church), drawings, prints done after his paintings, and photographs of his works, family members and sitters. Also a range of biographical materials can be used for study purposes: personal documents, honorary diplomas, certificates of membership in art and science associations as well as mementoes, prizes, medals and correspondence.
The Branch also runs a research programme focusing on the reception of the artist’s work.
