The National Museum in Krakow has been involved in publishing since its foundation. In recent years the museum has issued around thirty book publications every year on the broadly-defined subject of art (and history) – both Polish and foreign, ranging from ancient to contemporary periods – at both scholarly and popular levels, for adults, young people and children. Characterized by fine graphic design, these are mostly albums, catalogues, lexicons and guidebooks that accompany (monographic, group and themed) exhibitions, organized or co-organized by the museum in Poland and abroad.

In addition to these publications relating to temporary exhibitions, the museum also publishes books on its ample collections, often as part of extended series, such as Katalogi zbiorów Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie. Seria Nowa [Catalogues of the Collections of the National Museum in Krakow. New Series], Z historii Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie [From the History of the National Museum in Krakow], Skarby naszych kolekcji [Treasures from Our Collections], Historie i sztuczki, czyli wprawki z historii sztuki [The Stories Behind the Pictures, or First Forays into the History of Art] (children’s guide), as well as guidebooks to the individual branches and galleries of the museum (in Polish and in English).

Other serial publications by the museum include Rozprawy Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie. Seria Nowa [Papers of the National Museum in Krakow. New Series], Studia i Materiały Naukowe Muzeum Narodowego w Krakowie [The National Museum in Krakow Studies and Research Materials], Notae Numismaticae, Prace Konserwatorskie w Muzeum Narodowym w Krakowie [Conservation Work at the National Museum in Krakow], Studia do Dziejów Dawnego Uzbrojenia i Ubioru Wojskowego [Studies in the History of Old Arms and Uniforms], with contributions by prominent Polish and foreign specialists.

Additionally, we publish various forms of printed matter for promotional and educational purposes (flyers, leaflets, brochures, information booklets, posters, postcards, games, etc.) to accompany exhibitions and other events in which the Museum is involved.
