The Painting and Sculpture Conservation Studio at the Sukiennice


Research projects of the Conservation Department involving conservators from the Painting and Sculpture Conservation Studio at the Sukiennice:

  • Analysis of Henryk Siemiradzki’s skills and techniques based on his works at the National Museum in Krakow and in other collections
    This project aims to analyse Henryk Siemiradzki’s skills and techniques through detailed research into selected oil paintings in the collections of the National Museum in Krakow and other museums. The work on each object involves identification of the materials used by the artist and analysis of the manner and the painting technique in which it was executed, combined with inquiry into the history of the painting and art-historical research. The project is funded as part of the core activity of the National Museum in Krakow.

  • Technological analysis of objects in the collections of the National Museum in Krakow based on physicochemical tests

  • Technological analysis of Maksymilian Gierymski’s paintings
    Project undertaken jointly with the Department of Modern Polish Painting and Sculpture, as part of a project funded by the National Science Centre
  • The work of Maksymilian Gierymski and the art of Polish artists in Munich in 1867–1900, interdisciplinary research project
    By the end of June 2013, technological analyses of 67 paintings had been completed, from Polish and foreign museum and private collections. The results of Stage One of the project were published in the catalogue of the exhibition ‘Maksymilian Gierymski. Works, Inspirations, Reception’.

  • Artists – witnesses of the January Uprising of 1863
    The project involves research work relating to the work and biographies of the insurgent artists. As a follow-up to the project, a publication on Elwiro Michał Andriolli is being prepared, Volume Two of the Iconographic Bibliography (collaboration with Robert Lewandowski, Świdermajer Historia i Architektura publishers).
