The Baroque art of the Mining Towns in Central Slovakia

The mining area of central Slovakia, then Lower Hungarian mining towns had paramount importance for the Habsburgs, to whom it had belonged since 1548 and financed their court. At the same time this technically and artistically progressive region represented one of the key artistic centers in the country.

  The treasures. The Princes Czartoryski Collection

  The exhibition presents a selection of the most valuable works of art and historical items from the collection of the Czartoryski family. The collection’s history can be traced back to 1801, when Princess Izabela Czartoryska established the first Polish museum in Puławy. After the November Uprising (1830–1831), the collection was moved across the border to Paris.

  The Power of the Avant-Garde

  The exhibition The Power of the Avant-Garde features works which have not been shown to the Polish public before, works by great artists, regarded already as classics in art history, such as Fernand Léger, Edvard Munch, Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian and Alexander Archipenko. Works produced in the first decades of the 20th century are accompanied by the contemporary ones, dialoguing with historical objects.

  ONNA – Beauty, Strength, Ecstasy

The Edifice of the Former 'Cracovia' Hotel Bought for the NMK

The modernist edifice of the former 'Cracovia' Hotel will become the property of the National Museum in Krakow. The official signing of the purchase agreement regarding the building located in ul. Focha, along with the plot of land on which it is situated, was held on 29 December at 12.30 at the seat of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Warsaw.

  One Has to Move On with the Living... Adam Asnyk Memorabilia in the NMK collections

  There are very few mementoes of Adam Asnyk – a poet, journalist, insurgent, Tatra climber, activist, Member of Parliament and Krakow councillor – preserved in Polish collections. Some of them – such as his oil portrait, ‘addresses’ on the occasion of his namedays – are stored at the National Museum in Krakow, and will be gathered for the first time in one exhibition to be presented to the public.

  Indigenous Customs and Rituals in Polish Art of the 19th and 20th Century

  The National Museum in Krakow has prepared its second art presentation in the Presidential Palace. It is centred around indigenous traditions and customs, which are reflected in Polish painting of the 19th and 20th century. The exhibition consists of 39 paintings depicting Polish religious and secular traditions associated both with folk customs and the ethos of the gentry.
