23.04.2023 Medal in private. Private Medals in the Polish-Lithuanian CommonwealthFrom their very beginnings, medals have been close to the hearts of those who receive them – quite literally! They were often meant to be held in the hand, and to be passed from hand to hand (either in official ceremonies or during private events), or sent by post, or even … tossed out into gathered crowds. They were used in a variety of ways also. They were sometimes piously stored in small cases, or ostentatiously worn on the chest, everyday items were decorated with them, or they were interred in graves along with the deceased. They accompanied people during family celebrations such as baptisms, weddings and funerals, but also lent a celebratory touch to official ceremonies. Their purpose was to commemorate events and individuals, thus they were mementos of a personal nature in every sense.

08.09.2024 FASHION AND SPORTIn the 20th century, we witnessed a spectacular development of sports fashion. A healthy lifestyle promoted by eminent educators and doctors, which also consisted of regular physical exercise, required appropriate clothing. Sports wear began to differ more and more from everyday wear. It helped in obtaining the best results in professional sports and provided comfort during amateur sports activities. When designing sportswear, the properties of natural and artificial fibres were considered, and the optimal weaving and knitting weaves were searched for. A fashionable appearance was also important: the right colour, cut, often also the brand. Today, when an active lifestyle is promoted, sports fashion becomes our everyday life.

07.01.2024 Matejko. The painter and historyAmong Polish painters, there is perhaps none more universally known than Jan Matejko. His works have accompanied generation after generation of Poles, at the very least from the beginnings of their education in the field of history, though mainly through reproductions in history books at that time. It is no exaggeration to say that the paintings of Matejko have shaped the imagination of the Polish nation on the greatest events of its own history. The painting “The Battle of Grunwald” (The painting is located in the National Museum in Warsaw)by this artist is the Polish painting most forcefully etched into the shared consciousness.
