Before the opening of the Karol Szymanowski Museum in Villa 'Atma' in Zakopane in 1976, the National Museum in Krakow held an exhibition with musical elements, which presented the life and art of the renowned composer who lived in 'Atma' from 1930 to 1935.

The works were supervised by the Director of the National Museum in Krakow – Tadeusz Chruścicki, while the exhibition was designed by Adam Młodzianowski based on a script devised by Teresa Chylińska and the curator – Zofia Cierniak. The display was presented in this form for nearly 35 years.

In the years 2012-2013, as part of the project “Music in the Tatra Mountains” realised within the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme: the Republic of Poland – the Slovak Republic 2007-2013, the 'Atma' building underwent a complete refurbishment and modernization. The display was also modernized and included multimedia presentations about Atma's history as well as the biography and art of Karol Szymanowski. The interior was designed by Latala Studio and Luiza Berdak – an art consultant from the National Museum in Krakow, in consultation and cooperation with Teresa Chylińska, a prominent expert in the works of Szymanowski and the winner of Jan Długosz Award.

The exhibition consists of a veranda and six rooms, including a study where the composer worked, reconstructed on the basis of preserved photographs and descriptions.

The photo gallery features selected objects currently exhibited in the biographical museum of Karol Szymanowski and aims at encouraging the visitors to personally visit this venue, filled with music, inspiration and atmosphere, where during live concert they can listen to Karol Szymanowski's works interpreted by outstanding artists from Poland and abroad.
