From October 31 to December 16, the Atma Branch will be closed

Tuesday is the day of free entry to permanent exhibitions at the NMK.

The museum is closed on Mondays.

MNK The Szymanowski - About the branch

The modernised interior features multimedia which meet the requirements of a modern visitor, presenting the composer's biography, the history of 'Atma' and recreating the atmosphere of the times when Karol Szymanowski lived and worked. The new branch opened after renovation on 10 May 2013.

The work and knowledge of Karol Szymanowski is promoted through modern media, the Internet, concerts, music programmes, lectures, meetings, workshops for children and youth, sales of records, music scores and publications about music and Zakopane. The Museum greatly contributed to the revival of music activity in Zakopane - it initiated the formation of The Karol Szymanowski Music Society, began a series of monthly chamber music concerts and partnered with the international festival of Karol Szymanowski Days.

The entrance through the porch located on the east side leads to the former kitchen, which now serves as a museum shop. Here, visitors can purchase tickets, books and music recordings as well as 'Atma's' latest promotional materials.

The adjacent room (once occupied by the composer's servant, Feliks Bednarczyk) features a multimedia touch screen, which offers a specially prepared presentation consisting of seven themes which are adressed through descriptions, photographs and films. Topics such as the chronicle of his life, family, friends, encounters with Zakopane, the circle of ideas and work are presented in an attractive way in order to portray the person and artistic biography of Karol Szymanowski. The visitors can also see an interesting map featuring places where the artist played concerts, stayed or travelled to. The presentation also includes a fragment of an interview conducted with Karol Szymanowski in 1935 in Prague, on the eve of Harnasie world prèmiere at the National Theatre.
