Treasures of the Baroque. Between Bratislava and Krakow

10.02-23.04.2017 Treasures of the Baroque. Between Bratislava and Krakow
Available for the physically impaired WiFi

It is the first big exclusive exhibition of Baroque art from Slovakia in Poland. The exhibition exploits the unique opportunity to present the Baroque art from the collection of Slovak National Gallery in wider spectrum due to the refurbishment of its premises.

The body of the show will consist of High and Late Baroque paintings and sculptures from the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava accompanied by artworks from 17 other Slovak establishments, as well as the 'complementary artworks' from Poland, Ukraine, Hungary and Czech Republic. In the centre-point of the exhibition project (with around 160 items) is the introduction to the Baroque art in Slovakia.

Besides that it has got more ambitious aim; to open, even to erudite audience, the lesser-known subject of mutual artistic contacts. Therefore along with the traditional outlining of the chronological frame and introducing the art centres, the exhibition will point out two areas of the mutual artistic ties between Poland and the territory of contemporary Slovakia. On one hand, it will introduce the specific coeval artistic expression of the border region, Spiš in particular (Gross, Szilássy, Raissmeier...). On the other, it will draw the attention to the domestic but also international, particularly Austrian and Austro-Italian artists who defined the materialisation of the local Baroque expression in regions of both countries (Kupezky, Manyoki, Palko, Maulpertsch...).
