Marian Kukiel – a historian, general, director”

20.05-15.06.2025 Marian Kukiel – a historian, general, director” Remind an event

This exhibition commemorates the 140th anniversary of the birth of General Marian Kukiel - a legionary, a participant in the Polish-Soviet War of 1920, a military historian, director of the Czartoryski Museum (1930-1939), and Minister of National Defense of the London-based government-in-exile from 1942 to 1949. Kukiel authored works highly regarded by specialists, including Outline of Military History, The War of 1812, and History of Poland during the Partition Period, 1795-1921.

The artifacts on display, drawn from the collections of the Czartoryski Princes Library, cover the period up to 1939. These documents include materials from his school years and studies at the University of Lviv, alongside memorabilia related to his military service and his work at the Czartoryski Museum. Among these are school certificates, diplomas, military service records, confirmations of medals and decorations, letters of appreciation, and other military staff documents. The final section of the exhibition showcases the General's correspondence with custodians of the Czartoryski collection: Prince Adam Ludwik Czartoryski, his wife Maria Ludwika Czartoryska née Krasińska, and Augustyn Józef Czartoryski.
