Exhibits from the Potocki family deposit in Krzeszowice

A set of marble statues purchased by Artur and Zofia Potocki in 1830 in Rome first went to Pałac pod Baranami [Palace under the Rams] in Krakow, then to their family residence in Krzeszowice, and next – in difficult wartime conditions – it was transferred to the Princes Czartoryski Museum and deposited there thanks to the efforts of curator Pelagia Potocka.

  Gallery of Decorative Art

  The Gallery of Decorative Art at the National Museum in Krakow is the largest permanent exhibition of this type in Poland. The displayed objects are arranged in a chronological order from the Early Middle Ages to the Art Nouveau period. The exhibition, with its stylishly arranged interiors and its collection of gold, fabrics, clothing, furniture, ceramics and glassware, complete with a unique collection of musical instruments and judaica, features nearly 4,000 exhibits presented in nine exhibition rooms and two annexes.

  Polish Legions 1914–1918

  Exhibition on the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War and the Legions.
  
  On 6 August 2014, on the centenary of the march-out of the First Cadre Company, an exhibition commemorating the Polish Legions was opened in the Main Building of the National Museum in Krakow.

About the branch

Designed by Bolesław Schmidt, Czesław Boratyński and Edward Kreisler, the edifice was constructed intermittently in the years 1934-1989. In 1998, the installation of special lifts and hoists enabled visitors with disabilities to tour the Museum.

  A presentation held at the EUROPEUM – Centre for European Culture shows artworks that, though not created in Europe, were influenced by European art. A cabinet and tsuba sword guards representing the namban art reflect this influence which was typical of this style of Japanese art. It developed at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and this is the period the objects in the collection of the National Museum in Krakow date back to.
