  Parisian climate in Józef Czapski's diaries

  Józef Czapski's diaries are an extraordinary combination of diaries and painting, as well as a specific calendar of the artist's rich life. The National Museum in Krakow has 275 diaries and the Józef Czapski Pavilion regularly exhibits those valuable objects, every time in a different thematic scene, prepared by Janusz S. Nowak.

  Poland. Piotr Uklański

  Piotr Uklański exhibition at the National Museum is the first Krakow presentation of the works of this artist, who is renowned in Poland as well as abroad. The reflection upon national iconography that he has been developing for over two decades – including the iconic works Solidarity, John Paul II, Polesploitation – assume the form of the exhibition this time. The theme of the new cycle of over fifty photographs is Poland. Colorful, as well as black and white photographs shown in the temporary exhibition room of the NMK, stress the artist's interest in the native landscape and national myths.

  Boards, leathers and enclosures. The works of old-days bookbinders

  Old books – being valuable objects – were secured with strong bindings. In the centuries between 15th and 16th, bookbinders used boards covered with leather, and later also cardboard, in order to stiffen sewn sheets of paper or parchment. The leather on the covers and spine was decorated – with the technique of engraving or carving called blind tooling.

  Poland in landscapes

  "Poland in landscapes" is another presentation of Polish art in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, prepared for the third time by the National Museum in Krakow. During such an important year of the 100th anniversary of Polish Independence, in such a significant place as the seat of the President of the Republic of Poland, in representative rooms, where the most important national events take place, the gallery of the most beautiful landscapes in Polish art is presented.

  Wyspiański

  The National Museum in Kraków has gathered the largest and most valuable collection of works by Stanisław Wyspiański (1869-1907) — one of the most important, original and appreciated artist from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, who belongs among such artists as Klimt, Mucha and Gaudi; the exhibition comprises of about 900 works.

  Medieval Madonna with Wild Strawberry from the Żywiec Municipal Museum

  The Madonna with Wild Strawberry from the Żywiec parish of the Holy Virgin Mary, while sticking to a convention in Marian iconography that was widely popular in the Middle Ages, is not a piece typical for its day. Apparently, it is just another majestic representation of an enthroned Madonna with Child on her lap and angels around her.

  The treasures. The Princes Czartoryski Collection

  The exhibition presents a selection of the most valuable works of art and historical items from the collection of the Czartoryski family. The collection’s history can be traced back to 1801, when Princess Izabela Czartoryska established the first Polish museum in Puławy. After the November Uprising (1830–1831), the collection was moved across the border to Paris.

  The Power of the Avant-Garde

  The exhibition The Power of the Avant-Garde features works which have not been shown to the Polish public before, works by great artists, regarded already as classics in art history, such as Fernand Léger, Edvard Munch, Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian and Alexander Archipenko.
