Promotion of the 'Colour and Shine' publication

  • On 14 January, the Krakow's 'Kijów' Cinema hosted a meeting promoting Bożena Kostuch's book titled 'Colour and Shine. Architectural Ceramics and Mosaics in Krakow and the Małopolska Region after 1945.' During the meeting, the author and a curator from the National Museum in Krakow spoke about her book, Dr Andrzej Siwek from the Krakow branch of the National Heritage Institute discussed the problem of mosaic decay, and Halina Rojkowska-Tasak – Head of the Monument Protection Department at the Office of the Municipal Conservator – talked about how Krakow looks after its mosaics.

    Bożena Kostuch – author of the publication 'Colour and Shine. Architectural Ceramics and Mosaics in Krakow and the Małopolska Region after 1945' is an expert in ceramics. In her book, she described and catalogued a few hundred compositions which can be seen in 32 localities in the Małopolska region, including Krakow, Tarnów, Krynica, Stary Sącz, Nowy Sącz and Zakopane. She devoted several years of work to this task, both conducting thorough research in the field, and doing research in the archives. These efforts resulted is an album which not only systematizes our knowledge about these beautiful architectural details, now returning to favour, but may well serve as a guide to the glass and ceramic wonders of Małopolska.
