Pure Form is an art concept coined by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, which encompasses all arts, including music. In painting, it involved a formal experiment, which resulted in a series of oil paintings created in the early 1920s.
A set of these works will be displayed in the Zakopane 'Atma' as part of a permanent exhibition dedicated to Karol Szymanowski. These paintings will be juxtaposed with three portraits of Karol Szymanowski authored by Witkacy on behalf of “S.I. Witkiewicz” Portrait Company . On the occasion of the exhibition, the normally displayed copies of these portraits will be replaced with original work by the artist.
The National Museum in Krakow will thus complement Witkacy's exhibitions organised in Zakopane as part of the Year of the Witkiewiczes. 'Atma' will become the only place where visitors will be able to see the artist's oil paintings which resulted from his theoretical reflections.
