“Dacia – the Forgotten Kingdom” is next year’s exhibition at the National Museum in Krakow (17.07.2025-31.10.2025), which will present the magnificent treasures of goldsmithing from the 2nd and 1st millennium BCE from the area of modern Romania.
The exhibits will come from the National Museum in Bucharest and other Romanian museums, loaned to Poland for the first time. These are excellent examples of jewellery and militaria, which testify to the sophisticated level of goldsmithing of the Dacian state in the pre-Roman era, complemented by spectacular coin hoards. Some of the objects are decorated with interesting zoomorphic or anthropomorphic motifs, which are rare in cultures developing outside the Mediterranean.
The exhibition will allow you to learn about the intriguing culture that developed in our region of Europe in interaction with other civilizations and which aroused the interest of the first historiographers, including Joachim Lelewel.
The exhibition is part of the “Poland-Romania Cultural Season 2024-2025”, which includes a number of exhibitions in Polish museums. It is a joint initiative of the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Romanian Institute of Culture, the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, with the support of the Polish Institute in Bucharest.
