At the exhibition, we present 78 bookplates of 26 authors, both Polish and foreign, sent in response to Internet invitation. The works are made with different techniques. They refer to Matejko, his anniversaries and motifs from his canvases.
The pretext to prepare this exhibition was the wish to establish a dialogue, in the jubilee year, between modern artists and Matejko's works, but also the fact that the Polish bookplate – one of the oldest ones in Europe – recently celebrated its 500th anniversary. The first of such signs in Polish books are thought to be the bookplate made in 1516 for bishop Maciej Drzewicki.
