Old prints on medal-making from the NMK collection
-
The NMK collection of old prints on the theme of medal-making comprises over 300 items. Selected objects will be displayed in successive parts of the exhibition titled ‘DE RE NUMMARIA’ in the Emeryk Hutten Czapski Museum. From 6 September, visitors can admire the most beautiful and interesting old prints on the subject of medal-making – nearly 70 old prints published from the 16th to the end of the 18th century and 24 maps.
These include publications such as albums with meticulous drawings presenting the achievements of ancient medallists, as well as academic studies analysing the information they contain.
The illustrations contained therein are of particular value. Numerous precise, frequently masterful prints – woodcuts and then copperplate engravings – were created for the purpose of presenting medals and coins in publications.
