  One Has to Move On with the Living... Adam Asnyk Memorabilia in the NMK collections

  There are very few mementoes of Adam Asnyk – a poet, journalist, insurgent, Tatra climber, activist, Member of Parliament and Krakow councillor – preserved in Polish collections. Some of them – such as his oil portrait, ‘addresses’ on the occasion of his namedays – are stored at the National Museum in Krakow, and will be gathered for the first time in one exhibition to be presented to the public.

  Collection – Evolution

  Evolution (Latin evolutio – unfolding, unrolling) refers to a slow, irreversible and directional process of development leading to greater diversity, complexity and perfection. This phenomenon can be observed not only in the world of live creatures. Collections (Latin colligere – gather into a whole), in particular museum collections, undergo a similar process. It is because unlike private collection they are characterised by the irreversibility and unidirectionality of the movement of objects making them up.

Ancient art collections at the National Museum in Krakow

The ancient art collection belonging to the Princes Czartoryski Foundation constitutes a set of various objects originating from Mediterranean cultures. According to the assumptions of the collection creator – Prince Władysław Czartoryski, the exhibits represent a broad spectrum of handicrafts allowing to deepen the knowledge about ancient art and enjoy the beauty of the objects themselves.
