The exhibition space of FASHIONable in Communist Poland
-
The title 'FASHIONable' implies the women's desire to remain in the mainstream of current fashion trends at all costs, despite financial difficulties, market shortages, and propaganda. Polish women were ambitious and hungry for novelties in the fashion field. Dressed in line with the current trends, they wanted to feel as beautiful and well-groomed as a their French, Italian or American counterparts. Being fashionable gave them a sense of belonging to the free world – say the curators, Joanna Regina Kowalska and Dr Małgorzata Możdżyńska-Nawotka, in the exhibition catalogue 'FASHIONable in Communist Poland'.
Come and see our fashion exhibition in Main Building of the NMK (al. 3 Maja 1).
