Magic coins

  • Arab coins left a lasting impression on the iconography of European coins, some of which clearly imitate or even copy them. The exhibition titled Between the East and the West. From Damascus to Andalusia: Islamic Coins in the Middle Ages, held at The Czapski Museum, aims to present the coinage of various Islamic dynasties of the Middle East, North Africa and Spain in the Middle Ages from the consolidation of the Arab Empire by the Umayyads (661-750), through the Abbasid dynasty and its turbulent history, the political and military domination, up until the Mongol invasion in 1258.
