Polish Wikipedia partner: The National Museum in Krakow, invites participants and attendees of Wikimania 2024 to a Kraków walk through 3 branches and the Old City.
Our Museum was created back when Krakow was within the borders of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Poland did not have independence as a country. Since its establishment, a huge part of the Museum's collection has been donations, given as a gesture of patriotism and social solidarity by collectors and artists. Thanks to continuous additions, today these collections amount to more than 1 million objects of art and culture heritage, making them the largest collection in Poland. The National Museum in Kraków is a huge repository of the public domain in physical form. Digital reproductions of the collections, MNK publishes online in the virtual catalog zbiory.mnk.pl and in the Wikiproject GLAM:Muzeum Narodowe w Krakowie.

During a walk through Kraków and the branches of MNK, we will visit together three very important places on the museum map of the city. On the program:
MNK WYSPIAŃSKI

Biographical museum of the most versatile Polish artist around 1900 - Stanisław Wyspiański: visual artist: painter, graphic artist, designer, as well as a poet, drama writer and personality of the Young Poland era. The prematurely deceased artist left behind an artistic legacy of significance that cannot be overstated. His individual style is best seen in his pastel drawings: the portraits, landscapes, stained glass designs and interior polychromes. A visit to his museum is a good entry to further touring of Krakow: you will find traces of the artist in many places, but the most important is the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi at All Saints Square, by the Planty. Stanisław Wyspiański is the author of the completed painting and stained glass window decorations, including the massive stained glass God the Father - Arise!
MNK THE SUKIENNICE
(Krakow Cloth Hall)

In the building of former city stalls, in the very heart of Kraków's Market Square. It is historically the oldest building of the museum, founded 145 years ago on the initiative of the city's residents: artists, social activists, art collectors. The gallery in Sukiennice presents a small part of the collection of Polish paintings and sculptures of the 19th century. There we will see the monumental works of art with historical scenes and an overview of the most poignant pieces from the times of Romanticism, Realism and Symbolism. From the walls of the gallery paintings will be projected onto us, images familiar to most Poles and Polish women since childhood - present in school textbooks, quoted in cinematography, co-creating the collective fantasy of our country.

MNK CZartoryski Museum

Renovated historical interiors of the city's palace, connected to the buildings of the former city walls. Exhibition of a collection of ancient European art, memorabilia related to the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, curios, militaria and ancient art. The location of the most valuable works of art in the Polish collections: Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci and Landscape with a Good Samaritan by Rembrandt.
