Biography:
Duo Karolina Mikołajczyk & Iwo Jedynecki is one of the most intriguing and innovative chamber ensembles of the young generation, breaking all stereotypes regarding instrumentation and defying established repertoire schemes. Awarded the "Polityka Passport" in the "Classical Music" category for "versatility and ability to navigate various musical worlds; virtuosity, unrestrained imagination, and creativity in selecting and creating new repertoire for the unusual combination of violin and accordion." Nominated for the Fryderyk Award for their album "Błażewicz" in the "Contemporary Music Album of the Year" category, they aim to showcase different faces of classical music and bring its beauty to a wide audience in various corners of the world. Laureates of first prizes and Grand Prix at international music competitions in France, Croatia, Austria, Italy, and Poland, they have gained recognition from artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Maxim Vengerov. They have performed recitals in 30 countries on four continents in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Kaufman Music Center in New York, Star Performing Arts Centre in Singapore, National Philharmonic in Warsaw, and NOSPR. They have appeared at renowned classical music festivals, including the Festival de Musica de Morelia in Mexico, Semanas Musicales de Frutillar in Chile, Habana Clasica in Cuba, and Warsaw Autumn in Poland. In 2019, they performed in Brunei as the first Polish musicians in the country's history. Their debut recital at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw in 2017 was awarded a standing ovation. In July 2018, they toured China, performing in venues such as Guangzhou Opera House and Jinan Shandong Grand Theatre. Their performances are described as perfect and mature, yet brilliant and full of youthful vitality, with the world-renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov describing them as "a duo so in tune that they sound like one instrument." The artists boldly reinterpret well-known chamber music works, giving them new dimensions that captivate with diverse colors in Iwo Jedynecki's transcriptions. The ensemble also enjoys performing contemporary music and collaborates with leading Polish composers, including Marcin Błażewicz (Double Concerto for Violin, Accordion, and Symphony Orchestra dedicated to Duo), Piotr Moss (Opole Concerto for Violin, Accordion, and Orchestra performed with the New Music Orchestra in 2021), and Krzysztof Penderecki (official permission to perform their own arrangement of Sonata for Violin and Piano granted by the Maestro in January 2020, presented in his presence at the European Center for Music in Lusławice).
