Mouse figurine belonging to Olga Boznańska circa 1900

Mouse figurine belonging to Olga Boznańska circa 1900

Title: Miniature Mouse Figurine
Author: Unknown
Date: between 1897 and 1940
Type: Sculpture
Technique: Casting, chasing
Material: Metal
Dimensions: height: 1.5 cm, width: 4.8 cm, depth: 1.8 cm

The figurine depicts a small mouse. It is a free-standing, three-dimensional sculpture made of metal in a dark silver tone. The form is realistic, preserving the natural proportions of the rodent. The mouse stands on four legs, with its tail laid in a gentle wave across the ground behind it. The head is rounded, tapering toward a small nose, topped with two small, circular ears. The torso is fairly robust, slightly raised at the shoulders, with tiny paws emerging subtly beneath the body. A long, slender tail extends from the back, slightly longer than the body itself, resting in a soft, curved line

The surface of the figurine is uneven, evoking the texture of fur. Delicate grooves imitate the animal’s coat. In several areas—most notably on the torso, the edges of the ears, and the nose—traces of wear appear as golden highlights. These marks testify not only to the passage of time but also to the affection Olga Boznańska must have felt for this charming, diminutive mouse.
