General Description: Passage of Roses is an art installation in the form of a mirror mosaic covering the walls of a tenement at 3 Piotrkowska Street in Lodz. It consists of small fragments of mirrors arranged in irregular patterns. The mosaic reflects light and its surroundings, creating a constantly changing image.
Detailed description: The Passage of Roses consists of a mirror mosaic covering the gray facade of a tenement building. The mirror fragments are small, irregularly shaped. Juxtaposed together, they resemble a grid. In some places the pieces are arranged in a pattern of circles, semicircles or wavy lines. The mirrors reflect and scatter light, so that the whole composition gives the impression of shimmering. It also reflects the surroundings, making the image constantly change.
Passage of Roses is an art installation by Joanna Rajkowska, who transformed an ordinary courtyard of a tenement house in Lodz into a magical space of interaction and reflection. The work was inspired by the author's personal story - the experience of her daughter Rosa's struggle with an eye disease. The motif of a mosaic of mirrors, reminiscent of a retina, symbolizes the fragility, complexity and beauty of the process of seeing.
The work is part of Rajkowska's broader activities, which often use public space to provoke dialogue and emotion. The project has been enthusiastically received by Lodz residents and visitors, becoming one of the highlights on the city's artistic map. Passage of Roses is not only a visual beauty, but also a form of artistic recording of intimate history.
