Japan at the threshold of modernity - exhibition space

  On a return visit. The decorative panels by Jan Rembowski from the Dłuski Sanatorium in Zakopane

  After almost 100 years, more decorative panels painted by the artist Jan Rembowski (1879–1923), following the panel Pochód górali (Procession of Highlanders), will return temporarily to Zakopane. The two monumental works entitled Pochód dzieci góralskich (Procession of Highlander Children) and Pochód góralek (Procession of Highlander Women) were initially part of the artistic interior design of the theatre room in the main building of the sanatorium operated by Bronisława and Kazimierz Dłuski in Kościelisko.

  Japan at the threshold of modernity

  The exhibition ‘The Tradition of Japanese Clothing. Forms and Transformations from around 1900 to the 1960s’ (17.03.2023 – 2.07.2023) is the first of threescenes of the series ‘Japan at the threshold of modernity. Design and patterning of clothes from around 1900 to the 1960s as an example of contemporary gifts in the National Museum in Krakow’, presenting classic Japanese costumes and those characteristic of this extraordinary eastern tradition.

  ONNA – Beauty, Strength, Ecstasy

  The exhibition which is an exceptional presentation of the subject of the Japanese woman features images and impressions from her life, both in paintings and woodblock prints. They show the unique secrets of the Floating World (Jap. ukiyo), the secrets of intimate scenes.

Images of Women in Japanese Painting and Woodblock prints

It is the first time in the history of Polish exhibitions that we are presenting impressions from the world of a Japanese woman whose images, immortalised in paintings and woodblock prints, reveal some secrets of the Floating World, including intimate scenes behind the screen.

  From Japan to Europe. Beautiful and Useful Objects

  The exhibition titled "Long Live Art! Feliks Jasieński's Collection. From Japan to Europe. Beautiful and Useful Objects", displayed in the Szołayski House, features a wide selection of exhibits from the priceless collection of Feliks "Manggha" Jasieński. We present the person of the prominent Krakow collector, patriot, art patron and a friend of the artists – masters from the Young Poland movement. Not only can the visitors admire paintings, sculptures and prints, but they can also see ceramics, textiles, furniture and militaria from that period.

MUSIC BENEATH THE TATRAS

In the years 2011–2013 the National Museum in Krakow, together with its Slovak partner, the P.O. Hviezdoslav Orava Museum in Dolny Kubin, implemented the project “Muzyka pod Tatrami” (Music beneath the Tatras) as part of the Republic of Poland – Republic of Slovakia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007–2013.

  In the “Southern Barbarian” Style – Japanese Namban Objects. A Cabinet and Tsuba Sword Guards at the

  A presentation held at the EUROPEUM – Centre for European Culture shows artworks that, though not created in Europe, were influenced by European art. A cabinet and tsuba sword guards representing the namban art reflect this influence which was typical of this style of Japanese art. It developed at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and this is the period the objects in the collection of the National Museum in Krakow date back to.
