Visit by Researchers from Japan

Recently, the National Museum in Kraków had the honor of hosting Prof.

Aki Yamakawa from Kwansei Gakuin University in Hyogo and Prof. Mie Ishii from Saga University in Japan.

The visit took place as part of the research project “Transfer of Kimono Conservation Skills and Knowledge: Japan-Poland Knowledge Exchange on Kimono Materials and Conservation Project,” funded by the Sumitomo Foundation. Its goal was to exchange knowledge and experience related to the study and conservation of kimonos and textile materials.

Prof. Aki Yamakawa shared her knowledge on the history and stylistics of kimonos, while Prof. Mie Ishii presented topics related to textile conservation and research in the field of heritage science.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, establish new academic connections, and deepen Polish-Japanese cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation and research.
