Research is one of the statutory activities of the National Museum in Kraków. One of its key manifestations is its publishing output.
The MNK Publishing House regularly publishes collection and exhibition catalogues, as well as other peer-reviewed publications, making a significant contribution to the development of national scholarship. In doing so, it adheres to international principles of publication ethics.
The MNK Publishing House is classified at Level I (80 points) in the ministerial list of publishers of peer-reviewed academic monographs. Furthermore, it publishes two academic journals: ‘Notae Numismaticae – Numismatic Notes’ and ‘Proceedings of the National Museum in Kraków. New Series’, the former of which is included in the ministerial list of academic journals (70 points). Both periodicals are published in print and electronic formats, made available online with DOI (Digital Object Identifier) numbers as a result of the National Museum in Kraków’s agreement with Crossref. Texts in Polish are brought into the international circulation through abstracts in English.
The Museum also publishes academic series, within which we publish specialist studies by both MNK staff and external researchers. In collaboration with the Association of Lovers of Ancient Weapons and Military Uniforms, we have been publishing ‘Studies on the History of Ancient Armaments and Military Uniforms’ since 1963, the series ‘Be That As It May’ features materials and sources relating to the history of the collections of the MNK Czartoryski Museum and Library, whilst ‘Scholarly Works of the National Museum in Kraków’ brings together comprehensive monographs, which are often the doctoral theses of our staff.
