The National Museum in Kraków, as part of its promotion of the work of Józef Skrzek and the legacy of the band SBB (originally the Silesian Blues Band, known as Szukaj, Burz, Buduj), invites you to visit the exhibition: ‘SBB: The Road to Freedom’, which will be on display at the MNK Szołayski House on Szczepański Square from 21 November 2025 to 31 May 2026.
The curators of the exhibition at the National Museum in Kraków are: Beata Cieślak, Jacek Kurek and Zbigniew Gocek. It was within this group that the idea arose to broadcast a unique concert by the outstanding musician and composer on Katowice’s Radio eM.
The Kraków exhibition is the result of two significant anniversaries: the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation (2021), which led to an exhibition at the Museum in Chorzów (now the Museum of Metallurgy), a conference and a concert; and the 50th anniversary of the band’s first album release (2024). At the time, a concert was held at the Siemianowice Cultural Centre (the band’s regular rehearsal venue), a conference took place at the local Park of Tradition, and a book launch for Ze słowem biegnę do Ciebie was held.

The exhibition will not only be an opportunity to tell the story of Poland’s most important rock band, to showcase the musicians’ instruments, the equipment from Radio Opole’s studio where they recorded their albums, as well as album covers and numerous memorabilia, but also to listen to the music available at specially prepared stations. It will also be a unique opportunity to examine the work of this outstanding band within the context of Polish and, more broadly, Central European musical culture, particularly that of the 1970s. After all, SBB’s uncompromising artistic stance was a clear, heartening signal sent to those who, in the People’s Republic of Poland, were yearning for freedom and challenging the reality of the time.
