Leon Wyczółkowski

Plowing in Ukraine

Description

This is one of Leon Wyczółkowski’s works in which the artist approached the principles of French Impressionism. However, contrary to accepted rules, he decided to paint it in his studio based on plein-air studies. Beyond the depicted oxen and plows, the work is primarily a story about colour and light captured in the moment of observation. The artist transferred these phenomena onto canvas using the mélange technique and by neutralizing local colours.

We invite you to explore the entry on this work in the digital catalogue of the National Museum in Kraków.
