Zofia Matuszczyk-Cygańska – fabric exhibition
02.12.2022-05.02.2023Zofia Matuszczyk-Cygańska (1915–2011) – a Polish designer of useful fabrics, an author of artistic fabrics in the tapestry technique, a painter uses in her work not only paints, but also colorful threads to build expressive, suggestive images.
This exhibition, although small, will present examples of two important aspects of her activity in the 1950s and 1960s – work for the “Ład” Artists’ Cooperative and individual, creative searches in weaving techniques. The exhibition will include ten fabrics: nine jacquard and one experimental.
Jacquard fabrics are functional, aesthetic fabrics, varied in terms of taking up the topic and designing patterns. Their colors are noteworthy, composed sensitively from many different-colored threads. They convince about their value for expositions and dedication to specific interiors.
The experimental fabric is an interesting artistic expression, made of sisal, agave fibers.
Thanks to the Culture Promotion Fund – creating the MNK design collection – the purchase of objects designed by Andrzej Pawłowski and Zofia Matuszczyk-Cygańska, the National Museum in Krakow enriched its collection in 2022 with new objects.
