The Gallery of Polish Painting in the Presidential Palace, prepared by the National Museum in Krakow and opened on 9 January 2015 by the President of the Republic of Poland and the First Lady, presents the works of over twenty most prominent Polish painters such as Józef Chełmoński, Aleksander Gierymski, Stanisław Witkiewicz, Józef Czapski and Stanisław Wyspiański.
The Presidential Palace – an official residence of the President of the Republic of Poland– constitutes and important venue for the promotion of Polish art. The elegant halls of the Palace offer a display of Polish painting from state and private collections. The paintings from the National Museum in Krakow, complemented by five other loaned works, are on display from 10 January 2015 till June 2016 “Thanks to this unique exhibition prepared by the National Museum in Krakow, a visit to the Presidential Palace becomes a journey through time and Polish landscape, through the history of significant and dramatic events – as seen through the eyes of prominent Polish artists. I would like to thank the Museum team for creating a coherent artistic story about the values that shape us as a nation. It's an institution whose origin, history and collections constitute the symbol of Poland's unity and patriotic commitment to its continuity”- the President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, wrote in the introduction to the exhibition catalogue.
In the rooms of the Palace, the exhibition curators – Wacława Milewska i Światosław Lenartowicz – used the works of over 20 artists to present the history of Poland from the Kościuszko Insurrection to the times of “Solidarity”, the diversity of Polish landscape and the richness of traditions and customs.
Art enthusiasts will be able to visit the Gallery of Polish Painting during the open days organized in the Presidential Palace. Information about open days will be published in advance on the www.prezydent.pl website.
