Architecture as the Music of Space. 5 extraordinary concert halls in Europe

05.02-01.08.2021 Architecture as the Music of Space. 5 extraordinary concert halls in Europe

The exhibition at the Cracovia Hotel is the second exhibition, which was originally organised at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin in 2016. The starting point for its creation was the new Philharmonic building designed by the Barcelona-based Barozzi Veig studio, which was awarded the architectural Mies van der Rohe award.

The exhibition is an architectural analysis of five outstanding concert halls in Europe – the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin, The National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Oslo, the concert hall in Blaibach, the Harpa concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavik and the Casa da Música concert hall in Porto – enriched with a collection of 3D photographs. It was designed by Robert Konieczny, an architect and head of KWK Promes studio, ranked by the "Wallpaper" magazine among 101 most exciting architectural studios in the world. Since 2012, he has been an independent expert of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and his work has been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe award as many as eight times.

The curator of the exhibition and the author of the concept of the original exhibition is Ewa P. Porębska – architect, architecture critic, editor-in-chief of the "Architektura Murator" magazine. This tireless activist for the popularization of best architectural practices has written many articles on subjects related to architecture and is the originator and curator of numerous exhibitions devoted to this subject. In addition, she was a juror of the European Prize for Urban Public Space 2016 and the European Mies van der Rohe Architectural Award 2013 as well as a member of the jury of the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008-2010.
