The aim of the project was to analyze the twelve panels authored by Nicolaus Haberschrack, which constitute the remains of the retable from the main altar of St. Catherine’s Augustinian church in Krakow, as well as a fragment \u2013 painted on both sides \u2013 from Sts Peter and Paul’s parish church of in Nieg owi\u0107, sometimes compared to the Augustinian cycle.<\/p>

The display in the Bishop Erazm Cio\u0142ek Palace revolves around the painting titled The Capture of Christ by Nicolaus Haberschrack \u2013 a panel from the wing of the retable of the main altar of the Augustinian church. It is referred to in a story dating back to 1468 about the contract concluded between the Augustinians and “Nicolaus Haberschrak pictor de Cracovia”. It should be emphasized that this is the first case in the history of the production of retables in Krakow that we have known the name of the author and possess the (partly) preserved work.

The exhibition at the Bishop Erazm Cio\u0142ek Palace aims at presenting the current knowledge on master Nicolaus Haberschrack, which significantly revalues the hitherto prevailing outlook on his artistic personality. The display will be accompanied by boards and multimedia featuring the documentation on the research potential of The Painting and Sculpture Conservation Studio in the Bishop Erazm Cio\u0142ek Palace<\/a> and The Laboratory for Analysis and Non-Destructive Research into Artefacts<\/a>, which will undoubtedly call into question the wide-spread opinions on the conservation state of the retable from the main altar of St. Catherine’s Augustinian church in Krakow’s Kazimierz \u2013 the main dated work of master Haberschrack, confirmed by sources.
