Treasures from Lviv"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead size-small\">The Boris Voznitsky Lviv National Art Gallery in Lviv holds an extraordinary collection of works by Stanis\u0142aw Wyspia\u0144ski, including four pastel portraits from the years 1893\u20131894 as well as sixty four loose sketches and drawing studies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text size-small\"><em>Portrait of Two Girls<\/em> and <em>Study of a Boy\u2019s Head<\/em> were donated to the Municipal Gallery by Boles\u0142aw Orzechowicz from Kalnik\u00f3w in 1905, while <em>Portrait of a Girl with a Camomile<\/em> was a donation by Micha\u0142 Toepfer made in 1907. Also, the pastel work <em>Lady in a Lilac Dress<\/em> was purchased by the Society of Friends of Sciences in Vilnius.<\/p>\n<p>Wyspia\u0144ski\u2019s drawings in the Lviv collection are sketches, among others from the period when the artist worked on the painted decoration of St Mary\u2019s Basilica in Krakow in 1889, and from his first artistic journey across Europe in 1890, as well as drawings documenting Wyspia\u0144ski\u2019s military service in Krakow in November 1890, sketches from Paris of 1891, and caricatures of historical events in 1900. Wyspia\u0144ski sold these works to the Municipal Gallery in Lviv in 1906.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition of the Lviv collection is yet another display of Wyspia\u0144ski\u2019s works at the National Museum in Krakow.
