Some Preliminary Remarks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abstract:<\/strong> For a number of reasons, the use of Venetian ducats and their imitations in India in the modern period has parallels in the use of Roman gold coins and their imitations in central, eastern and northern Europe (outside the Roman Empire) in antiquity.
